Vintage Grandis road racing bike hand built in Italy from Columbus SL tubing and Campagnolo dropouts (rear is horizontal). Equipped with Campagnolo Nuovo Record components, Brooks saddle, Cinelli stem/bars, and Mavic Open Pro wheels. I bought the frame about a year ago from Landmark in the lower east side and have since been building it into my dream bike. Unfortunately it is too big for me and although I love riding it, I have to raise money to finish the custom frame I recently built to fit me.
Wheels: Hand built in Summer 2011 by Bike Dr. in Williamsburg using
Continental Gatorskin 23c. Treads and rubber still fresh and round.
Mavic Open Pro rims (break surface still crisp and shiny)
36 straight gauge spokes (both wheels)
Avocet high flange hubs with new cartridge bearings installed at time of building (these hubs are vintage Italian copies of Campy Record and are very high quality)
Suntour 6 speed freewheel, still in great condition with minimal tooth wear.
Frame:
Grandis "Special" size 57cm (c-c square) with Campagnolo drop outs and chromed chain stays. There are no dents, bends, cracks, abnormalities, etc. The Columbus SL sticker is rubbed off. I was told it was from the early 90's by another Grandis owner, but I believe it's from the 80's from the research I've done. Rear spacing is 126mm with horizontal dropouts. The lug work and details on this frame are beautiful. A curved rear brake bridge and chain stay bridge, pantographed fork crown/seat stays/head badge, painted lug windows, etc. The paint job is plenty chipped up but still amazing to look at and was done to the highest standards. The chrome on the chain stays have some pitting and the chrome on the fork crown is pretty beat up. The decals are still mint (except the "grandis special" on the left chain stay) and say "campione del mondo" and "campione italiono" on the seat tube. Fitted with a Campagnolo Record headset (chrome is flaking a little but works fine) I'm pretty sure the seat tube/head tube angles are 74 instead of the typical 73. So more aggressive/track-like geometry with stiff and short, round chain stays as opposed to oval with tight clearances all around.
Drivetrain:
Campagnolo Nuovo Record front and rear derailleur
Campagnolo Nuovo Record cranks 172.5mm. Scratches and foot wear. No cracks.
O.M.A.S. Bottom bracket re-packed/serviced when installed
Kyokuto Japanese road pedals with Christophe cages and Velo Orange brown leather toe straps.
Campagnolo Nuovo Record gear shifters.
Controls:
Cinelli stem, I think 90mm (only 1 scratch. was bought NOS) (I also have the 1a circle logo one that's a lot longer probably around 120mm if interested)
Cinelli "Giro D'Italia" bars 42cm
Velo Orange brown leather bar tape
Brooks B17 Narrow brown, less than a year old. (I way under 140lbs so not much of an imprint but not brand new either)
Laprade alloy fluted seat post
Campagnolo Record brake levers with new generic hoods
Jagwire cable housing
Shimano 105 brakes model BR-1055 SLR-S (I have some more period correct brakes if interested but these work better)
Feel free to ask questions or arrange to just come take a look/inspect/test ride. Rides perfect. Light, strong, fast, and beautiful.
